"Keeping at the forefront is in the best interests of my patients"

Dr Darryl John Gregor MBBS (Qld), FRANZCO, is a Gold Coast Ophthalmic Physician and Surgeon who is a well recognised pioneer with Australian cataract and refractive surgery.

Born in Brisbane, he attended the Anglican Church Grammar School and graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School. He commenced practice in Southport in 1980. Dr Gregor was among the first Australian ophthalmologists to implant intraocular lenses, and was a pioneer of Day Surgery - building Brockway House, a specialist Medical Centre and Day Surgery Centre in Southport, in 1985. This was Queensland's first licensed Day Theatre.

Although enjoying all areas of ophthalmology, Dr Gregor's passion lies with cataract and refractive surgery. His enthusiasm for day surgery, combined with advances in anaesthetics to accommodate his quicker surgical techniques, has placed him at the forefront of his field in surgery.

In 1991 Dr Gregor was one of the first ophthalmologists in Australia to perform Laser surgery to correct vision. Since then he has travelled internationally each year to keep informed of futuristic trends and techniques to enable delivery of the best treatments to his patients.

Dr Gregor was a founding partner of The Eye Centre and The Laservision Centre in Brockway House, Queen Street, Southport, in 1996. In 1998 these medical facilities relocated to 2 Short Street, Southport, and the Short Street Day Theatre began operation. On 19th May 2008 The Eye Centre and The Laservision Centre changed their name and are now known as Vision Eye Institute and Vision Laser, respectively. The name change reflects our growth and national strength but importantly at a local level we remained the same team, providing the same high standard of clinical expertise and commitment to patient care.

Dr Gregor holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists (1980), has served as President of the Gold Coast Medical Association in 1988 and Branch Councillor of AMAQ in 2003/2004. He was a Founding Member of the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

He is a director of Vision Group Holdings and a Trustee of Bond University Ltd. He is passionate about innovation, and has been an advocate of reform in education and business.

Dr Gregor lives in Southport, is married with five children, and is an avid motoring and boating enthusiast.
