Our Doctors
Dr Robert Bourke
M.B., B.S., F.R.A.N.Z.C.O.
"Delivering safe, reliable visual results from treating
macular, cataract and vitreo-retinal conditions".
Practice Reputation
Dr Bourke's extra postgraduate training positions him as one of only a
handful of Australian eye surgeons who can deal with all complexities of
Cataract, Macular and Vitreo-retinal treatment - whether highly complex or
routine conditions. The demanding, intricate surgical requirements and the
additional training required for vitreoretinal surgery make Dr Bourke's skills a
rare commodity and since returning home from overseas in 1995, he has been an
ever-reliable community resource for the Gold Coast as well as for referrers
throughout Oceania, Europe and US.
Training
Dr Bourke’s practice is founded on his additional experience in his formative training years as well as his continued dedication to stay at the forefront of advanced Retina, Macular and Cataract treatment. Instead of heading out to private practice after completing his Medical (1979-87) then Ophthalmology training (1987-1991), Bob completed 2 Vitreoretinal-Macular-Cataract Fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and St Paul’s Eye Hospital, Liverpool UK (1991-1995). He performed more surgery in this intensive supervised extra 3 ½ year postgraduate surgical training than many Eye doctors perform in their entire career, treating the UK’s most complex intraocular complexities. The result of all this extra training? – he learnt not only how to deal with all complexities, but more importantly, how to treat to avoid or minimize complications in intraocular surgery.
